It’s game on CQ Hospital and Health Service!

Get ready Mackay Hospital and Health Service (MHHS)….

We’re taking our fierce but friendly rivalry with neighbouring CQ Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS) to the next level by throwing down a challenge to become the healthiest regional community in Queensland!

Chief Executive Jo Whitehead announced it was game on last week during a PT-style session run by Muscle Garden at Mackay Base Hospital…. and boy did participants work for it.

“We know we have our own challenges here in Mackay but goodness me it’s even worse down in CQ,” she said.

“I’m very confident in saying we are ready to really caine our neighbouring colleagues; we’re going to lose more centimetres, take more steps and we’re absolutely going to lose more kilograms during the challenge.

“This is the kind of competitive, can-do attitude that we really want to encourage. We want to have people thinking they can really make a change, in their lives, they can make some active choices with the help and support of Mackay HHS and all our partners.

“C’mon MHHS we can definitely do this thing!”

The 16-week challenge to become healthier regional community will formally kick off on 18 June with the winner decided by whichever tribe shows the most improvement towards steps taken and centimetres and kilograms lost.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Mr Steven Miles helped announce the challenge last week, although didn’t show any indication of which health service he thought could win.

“I can’t play favourites but it is fantastic to see two communities are using friendly rivalry to lead the way to a healthier and happier Queensland,” Minister Miles said.

“You’ve got over four months to count your steps, record your kilos and waist circumference to see which health service has made the biggest gains towards shaping a healthier community.

“Participants will be able to track their progress and celebrate their achievements through an online portal that will be launched in early June.

“You can get ready now and shape up by dusting off your walking shoes and rounding up your tribe because we’ll need every one of you involved.

“As Minister for Health, I’m calling on everyone to jump on board with this fantastic initiative which will shape a healthier Queensland.

“I’m pleased to see our Hospital and Health services setting a great example for the local community.”
