Research Ethics & Governance

Mackay Institute of Research and Innovation (MIRI) is committed to the highest standards of research integrity across the health service.

The research governance process, including ethical review, ensures that research in Mackay HHS is conducted according to the appropriate regulatory, ethical and scientific standards.

Research ETHICS

In order to conduct research in MHHS, it is a requirement that all research first obtains the following:

  • Ethics Approval from a Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC)
  • Site Authorisation is required for each site or Hospital and Health Service you wish to include in your study

Researchers must submit to a certified HREC for approval and/or endorsement.  When submitting to an Ethics Committee please refer to the list of NHMRC Certified HRECs

Research Governance

Research Governance authorisation is required for all Queensland Health sites for any research project.  Research Governance is the review of research projects and requests involving Mackay Hospital and Health Service (MHHS), within this review the Research Governance Officer (RGO) aims to evaluate project risk for the HHS, legal requirements and accountability, policy and procedural implications, logistics, resourcing, feasibility and beneficence to the HHS and the community.
